Johnny Depp's Summer Wedding
Following the swashbuckling twists and turns of Pirates of the
Caribbean At World's End Johnny Depp has said that he loves playing
Captain Jack Sparrow so much that he wouldn't mind several more films.
Depp says:
"He's a blast to play. I'll be in a deep, dark depression saying
goodbye to him. I'll keep the costume and just prance around the
house, entertain the kids. Maybe 'Pirates 4, 5 and 6'. If they had a
good script, why not? I mean, at a certain point, the madness must
stop, but for the moment, I can't say that he's done."
"I'll never get bored of Captain Jack, he is so much fun. If they
wanted to do `Pirates 7', why not? There are new layers to Jack and
situations that he can't just talk his way out of, so it would be good
to keep exploring the character."
You can tell Depp loves the role - as he says "I'm still amazed that
so many people in so many corners of the globe embraced the films . .
.Nothing like this has ever happened to me . . .it's very, very moving
and emotional, the idea that people feel this strong connection with
Captain Jack. It's just amazing."
It's a gruelling (and duelling) process filming Pirates - the third
film was shot back to back with the second. Chow Yun-Fat joined the
cast as Sao Feng at the Singapore set and Keith Richards who partially
inspired Johnny Depp's portrayal of Sparrow almost missed filming a
scene in At World's End following injuries sustained by falling out of
a palm tree. For more on Captain Jack check out my blog: Pirates of
the Caribbean: Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of Bordeaux!
Depp has other film commitments before he can once more don his
Captain's Hat. It has been confirmed that he will portray Paul Kemp,
the main character in a film version of writer Hunter S Thompson's
book, The Rum Diary and he will also play the title role of Sweeny
Todd in Tim Burton's film adaptation of the musical. Depp's production
company has picked up the rights to the story of poisoned former
Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko.
In the midst of all this rumour has it that Depp is about to marry.
Since 1998, Depp's partner has been Vanessa Paradis whom he met while
filming The Ninth Gate. The couple have two children: daughter
Lily-Rose Melody (who recently recovered from a very serious E. coli
bacteria infection that was causing her kidneys to shut down) and son
John "Jack" Christopher Depp III.
The rumours of a marriage this summer came after his daughter's
illness and 9 day stay in hospital. Rather than marry in the local
church, L'eglise St Martin, the couple are expected to hold the
ceremony in the ancient chapel within the 50-acre grounds of their
idyllic rural hideaway in the tiny village of Plan de la Tour, an hour
from St Tropez.
Locals are gossiping about the plans in the village and had thought
that the wedding would take place in the church. However as Depp shies
away from exposing his family to publicity it makes sense that the
couple would use the chapel on their grounds. The whole reason they
live in Plan de la Tour is because they like the quiet life.
The couple's two children, Lily-Rose and Jack, four, will attend along
with just a clutch of friends. According to French law, the couple
must obtain legal consent from the mayor to marry. A spokeswoman for
Plan de la Tour's mayor refused to comment on the rumour.
Plan de la Tour only has a population of 2000 and Depp and his family
can shop undisturbed in the outdoor market there. Depp bought his
French villa seven years ago from a German family for 750,000. The
tiny chapel is behind the house on the edge of the vineyards. Depp is
renowned for his love of good wine - particularly Bordeaux and there
can be a no more perfect setting for his wedding vows than this.
